The front office staff, the housekeeping staff, and the engineering and maintenance teams are essential to the inner workings of a hotel. First, you’ll examine how the front office handles reservations, registrations, complaints, and revenue management while making the guest feel valued. Then, you’ll learn about the many responsibilities of housekeeping and the methods and supplies that are used. Next, to best communicate with engineering and maintenance teams, you’ll examine the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems that these teams take care of. In addition, you’ll consider what accommodations need to be made to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Food and Beverage
This course includes important considerations for both front-of-house and back-of-house staff including food safety, sanitation, beverage preparation, and banqueting and event planning. Start by focusing on how to manage the front-of house team. This involves understanding each role’s responsibilities, scheduling, effective management, and supervision strategies. Also, you’ll consider how technology for a restaurant delivery service as well as table setup and service affect the front-of-house team. From there, you’ll turn to the back-of-house team to learn about culinary leadership and management and food quality. Specifically, you’ll learn how to enforce practices that keep contaminants off foods, cook and store food safely, and keep the environment sanitary. In addition, you’ll gain the skills to help staff follow best practices to keep guests with allergies from having a reaction and to be aware of the many government bodies that regulate food service. In addition, you’ll learn how to manage staff, money, physical space, inventory, costs, drinks, and guest interactions. Finally, you’ll learn how to get vendors and how to manage the budget effectively. This will prepare you to host events such as weddings, conferences, conventions, theme events, and seasonal parties. You’ll also learn what to do from the moment that the client books the venue to the time after they leave.

In addition, you’ll examine the art of budgeting for a business. Then, you’ll learn about accessibility compliance, health and safety regulations, licensing and permits, tax compliance, employment laws, and data privacy compliance. Finally, you’ll learn about different types of insurance so that you can select which ones are best for your business.
